Non-Profit
The Arc of the Capital Area is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering Central Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families through compassionate case management and innovative programs.
The Arc of the Capital Area is one of Austin’s oldest continuously operating nonprofits, empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) since 1949. Each year, we serve more than 1,000 individuals across 17 counties in Central Texas. Intellectual and developmental disabilities, or IDD, is a broad term encompassing over 100 different diagnoses, including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and autism.
At The Arc of the Capital Area, we are architects of inclusion, builders of empowerment, and champions of possibility. Our mission goes beyond providing support—we are catalysts for a world where every individual, regardless of ability, is not only seen and valued, but actively engaged in their community. Through innovative programs and steadfast advocacy, we illuminate pathways to independence, ignite creativity, and foster a society where differences are celebrated.
More than just an organization, The Arc is a dynamic force propelling individuals with IDD toward a future filled with dignity, opportunity, and limitless potential—one transformative experience at a time.
